Renault Nissan Automotive India (RNAIPL) MD Keerthi Prakash discusses the company's significant expansion, commitment to sustainable manufacturing, and Industry 4.0 adoption, solidifying India's global automotive presence.
The Indian automotive manufacturing sector is undergoing a period of unprecedented transformation. Driven by technological advancements, evolving consumer preferences, and a global push towards sustainability, the landscape is rapidly shifting. At the heart of this change is Renault Nissan Automotive India Pvt Ltd (RNAIPL), a cornerstone of the Renault-Nissan Alliance’s global operations, and its Managing Director, Keerthi Prakash.
Renault Nissan Automotive India Pvt Ltd (RNAIPL) is not just another automotive manufacturing plant; it’s a microcosm of India’s burgeoning manufacturing prowess, a testament to the power of strategic investment, and a beacon of sustainable manufacturing practices.
In this exclusive interview with Manufacturing Today, Prakash reveals the engine driving RNAIPL’s ambitious growth trajectory—a journey marked by significant expansion, a commitment to sustainable manufacturing, and a forward-thinking approach to navigating the complexities of an evolving industry.
A legacy of manufacturing excellence RNAIPL, established in 2010, stands as a testament to the Alliance’s faith in the Indian market. Its sprawling 600-acre facility in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, has already achieved remarkable milestones. To date, it has produced over 2.75 million vehicles, exporting more than 1.27 million units to over 108 countries across the globe. This success is not solely attributed to vehicle production; RNAIPL boasts end-to-end powertrain capabilities, having manufactured over 4.5 million powertrain units – a significant contribution to the global automotive supply chain. Currently, the plant boasts an annual production capacity of approximately 430,000 cars, a figure set to increase dramatically in the coming years. Prakash provides a detailed overview of RNAIPL’s current manufacturing capabilities: This story is from the March 2025 edition of Manufacturing Today.
