In January 2023, Ma announced that he was giving up control of Ant Group to allay regulatory concerns about the business. This move comes more than two years after regulators in Beijing suspended the company’s planned IPO as part of a larger crackdown on Chinese tech giants. Ma is one of the world’s richest e-commerce billionaires and is also the co-founder of Alibaba.
