Liver tumors are typically treated with chemotherapy, radiation, or surgery (or some combination of the three)—all of which are either invasive or have side effects that can rival the disease itself. But now there's a noninvasive treatment available: histotripsy, the process of liquefying cancerous tumors with ultrasound waves, resulting in minimal pain for the patient and no damage to nontargeted tissue—meaning fewer side effects.
