Innovative Free State students win big

Innovation was on display at the Enactus South Africa National Exposition, held at the Sandton Convention Centre, with more than 700 youngsters attending, writes Jyothi Laldas.

The Central University of Technology (CUT) students’ Vermi-Village, an innovative agricultural initiative in the Free State, has won them the Enactus South Africa National Exposition Championships for 2023.

In July, the Sandton Convention Centre played host to the Enactus South Africa National Exposition, a display of innovation and social impact that was attended by about 700 youth from universities around South Africa, academic staff, top business executives, sponsors and Enactus alumni.

Experiential learning platform Enactus was dedicated to developing the next generation of entrepreneurial leaders and social innovators.

The Enactus network comprised students, academic leaders and business leaders, who used entrepreneurship as a tool to empower communities. The Enactus programme operated in 36 countries, in more than 1 730 universities, with about 72 000 active students and affecting over 1,3 million people each year.

In celebration of its innovation and community impact, motor company Ford will sponsor CUT to travel to Utrecht in the Netherlands from 17 to 20 October, where they would compete in the Enactus World Cup against 31 countries.
