Responsible Leadership: Creating Economic Growth and Wellbeing for All Stakeholders
Entrepreneur magazine
|December 2022
We are inching towards the end of 2022 but the impact of the unprecedented economic, political and public health events of the past few years is still evident.
Some parts of the world are grappling with an economic slowdown while others are witnessing increasing socio-economic inequities; climate change events are striking all over the globe. Europe is experiencing heat waves, the Atacama Desert is blooming with flowers post heavy rains; and a bustling metro like Bangalore came to a grinding halt due to unseasonal flooding recently.
Business leaders have the acumen and resources to protect the environment, restore biodiversity, and deliver well-being for humanity. With a sustainable future under threat, many business leaders today are re-assessing the impact they are creating for all stakeholders, including the environment. They are asking difficult questions and making tough choices. "Is my business harming its stakeholders?" "If yes, can I reimagine it by investing in products and processes that will make the world a happier and healthier place?" "Is it possible to pursue both growth and sustainability?"

DIGITAL SWADESHI MOVEMENT REAWAKENS
India's Swadeshi Movement in the early 20th century was a powerful call for self-dependence, fundamentally shaping the country's core principles. Nearly a century later, the spirit of Swadeshi has reawakened, sort of. While back then Indians united to rid themselves of colonial rule, the second iteration of the movement is happening on a digital frontier, and in an era when the globe is hyper-connected economically and, of course, digitally. The movement aims to shed India's image of being just a consumer market - India offers among the largest userbases to global tech platforms such as Facebook, WhatsApp, Instagram, and Google, among others. In recent years, there has been a concerted push for \"Make in India\", \"Vocal for Local\" and \"Atmanirbhar\" (self-reliance) in all sectors. Of these campaigns, India also has some success stories such as smartphones, and now chipset manufacturing.
