September 2025

In an interview to Construction Week, Fujitec India MD, Shakir Ahmed explains Market trends, safety, and India-ready innovation.

CONNECTED ELEVATORS THE WAY FORWARD

What are the trends in the India's elevators market today?

India remains a dynamic and a competitive market, with a burgeoning demand for vertical mobility due to the exponential growth in real estate. Fujitec, a leading Japanese brand, has built its reputation in high and super high-speed segments. With affordable housing and low-rise residential projects growing, the company has expanded into these segments, offering reliable Japanese technology at competitive prices.

Fujitec also remains committed on quality and timely deliverables of the equipment with the support of digitally connectivity and real-time coordination, enabling transparent progress tracking. Higher level of automation is also, work in progress at Fujitec to manage the challenges of mismatch between Gen Z's expectations and traditional work environments, creating a talent drain and requiring businesses to adapt with more flexibility.

Fujitec is fully prepared for India's implementation of new elevator safety standards (IS 17900) from 22 December 2025. IS 17900 has been adopted from ISO 8100 and further modified to suit Indian conditions. While compliance may increase costs by up to 6%, the upgraded features enhance safety, including unintended car movement protection, ascending car over-speed protection, reinforced doors provides enhanced safety with value for money. Additionally, IS 17900 also focuses on safety of service personnel and dimensions aligned with national codes.
