INDIA IS POSITIONED TO LEAD THE CHANGE FOR ADVANCING TOWARDS A SUSTAINABLE ENERGY FUTURE
Businessworld India
|14 Jan 2023
India's prodigious investments in the technology and energy sector have propelled a significant economic growth spurt, making us ready to become the world's third-largest economy in the next five years, surpassing Japan and Germany, acknowledges Morgan Stanley.
This unprecedented growth is catalysed further by the three pillars of infrastructure development, energy transition, and digital transformation.
Keeping its ambitious economic growth targets in mind, sustainability is a key lever that the Indian government is closely monitoring to bring about green, inclusive, and resilient development. The energy sector is a critical vehicle for achieving this goal and the government has been putting all efforts towards decarbonisation with the adoption of clean energy systems along with some notable policies which will see us leading the change for advancing towards a sustainable energy future in 2023.
The energy sector is undergoing massive changes as the country moves towards the adoption of renewable energy, right from building the capacity for non-fossil power generation to encouraging energy firms to expand and strengthen their operations in order to ensure access to affordable energy even in the most remote areas. As of today, the installed renewable energy capacity in the country is more than 165 GW with renewables accounting for over 40 per cent of the overall power capacity.
