During an interaction with Vidushi , Kumaravel Ramakrishnan, Technology Director, ManageEngine explored the evolving cybersecurity landscape in India, the rise of AI in threat detection, and strategies to address emerging security challenges.
How has India’s cybersecurity landscape evolved with the rise in cyberattacks, and what trends are you seeing?
It's safe to say that the cybersecurity landscape has evolved significantly over the years, for sure. One key trend we observe is the growing awareness and adoption of cybersecurity measures among organizations, accompanied by increased investments in security solutions and larger focus on skill development. This is great for starters, and we strongly believe this will continue to be the norm going forward.
Government initiatives like the Personal Data Protection Bill and SEBI compliance mandate are crucial for strengthening India's cybersecurity landscape. These new regulations provide a legal framework for organizations to adhere to. Overall, while some challenges continue to exist, there are several positive signs and significant progress for sure.
Why has identity security become such a priority for organizations, and how are they adapting to this focus?
Close to 60% of Indian respondents in our survey "ManageEngine's 2024 Identity Security Report" indicated they faced identity-related cyberattacks in the last 12 months. Given the constant threat of these attacks and increasing compliance mandates such as SEBI, which require organizations to enforce strict access policies and privileged identity management, it’s no surprise that 95% of our respondents say their organizations are prioritizing identity security within their cybersecurity strategy.
