Per Harrtoft reflects on how it feels to own two private boats

Driving boats and discovering new places is a joy for me. Even when I stay within my home archipelago, I love seeing how it feels in the moment and watching things change through the seasons. But does that justify owning two boats? Isn't one enough? After all, I can only drive one at a time. Isn't doubling up just twice the work for the same amount of fun?
HALVING THE COMPROMISE
The simple truth is that every boat is a set of compromises. We choose the one with the trade-offs that suit us best, so the fact that my two boats - a Grandezza 40 Fly and an Iron Boats 827 Coupé - are so different works very much in my favour. The larger boat is more of a liveaboard, with two cabins and a top speed of 37 knots. With its comfort and shelter, it's perfect when my partner, Eva, and I go on longer trips. Sometimes, family members or friends join us, and there's plenty of space for that too. Deamare has an enclosed saloon, a cockpit and a flybridge, which gives us a choice of spaces depending on the weather. She's moored at Karlskrona's city marina, just a short walk from the centre so sometimes, we simply head down and stay the night at the dock.
