MERCEDES-BENZ GLS 450 d AMG Line

The big and luxurious GLS now comes with AMG embellishments to add to its appeal further

The Mercedes-Benz GLS has held the distinction of being one of the best luxury SUVs around for a very long time. Heck, when Mercedes-Benz moved to the new nomenclature for naming its SUVs nearly a decade ago, the GL-Class aptly became the GLS, denoting its equivalence to the highly revered S-Class sedan. The current, third generation GLS received a facelift last year, helping it make more luxurious, and now Mercedes-Benz India has launched the GLS 450 d AMG Line to give the luxury SUV a dash of sportiness, while adding a premium of Rs 3 lakh. We've always loved the straight-six diesel engine under its hood for its refinement and torque, and a dollop of AMG swag can only endear the big and burly luxury SUV further, no?

Unsurprisingly, the AMG body kit, dubbed the ‘AMG Night Package’ adds to SUV’s stance and helps the GLS look even more purposeful. And that’s because you get larger air intakes on the front bumper, body-coloured wheel arches and five-spoke, 21-inch AMG wheels that help the GLS look more ‘gangsta’.

Then there’s the blacked-out roof rails, window lines and outside rear-view mirrors, along with a dark chrome finish on the grille. At the rear, the exhaust tips get the dark chrome treatment too, making for a subtle differentiation, along with the revised tail lamp design. The AMG treatment is thus rather discreet, and unlike the smaller and less expensive Mercedes-Benz models offered with AMG Line package, there is a very understated feel to it all here.
