Triumph and Bajaj's latest 400cc creation wears the Thruxton badge but swaps old-school authenticity for modern style, aiming squarely at younger riders while risking the ire of purists

Triumph and Bajaj have done it again. After impressing us with the Speed 400 and the Scrambler 400x, the collaboration now takes a bold swing at café racer cool with the Thruxton 400. The Thruxton name first appeared in 1964, and while its modern revival comes in a smaller-capacity form, it's carrying that heritage into a new segment. Now, before you start throwing around the Thruxton name lightly, let's clear something up - this isn't just a Speed 400 in a fancy suit. It's a lot more ambitious.

Visually, the Thruxton 400 hits many right notes with its authentic café racer look - low-slung clip-ons, aggressive riding posture, and sleek quarter fairing that makes you look ready for the next Isle of Man TT. Triumph's heritage shines through beautifully, meshed neatly with Bajaj's acute understanding of affordable thrills.
However, some design choices raise questions: the decision to paint the USD forks black instead of retaining the premium gold finish feels like a missed opportunity, even if it was done to save costs. The black forks appear slimmer, giving off vibes more akin to the budget-conscious Speed 400 T4 than the upscale, full-fat Speed 400. “Golden forks on a Thruxton 400R maybe?” some of you speculated online - but no, there's no Thruxton 400 R planned. There will, however, be a Bonneville 400 coming next.

Don't tread lightly: Radial vs Cross Ply Tyres
If you don't know the difference between radial and cross ply tyres, this article is for you. So, if you want to refresh your memory. Because, besides tread patterns, understanding the difference is crucial. Each type has its strengths and weaknesses, and the choice largely depends on your riding style, the terrain you frequent, and the performance you expect from your bike. While radial tyres are more commonly found on modern motorcycles, cross ply tyres still hold relevance - let's say in specific applications.
