HERE'S WHAT TATA BRINGS TO THE C SEGMENT FIGHT WITH THE SIERRA

- WORDS TUHIN GUHA

TATA SIERRA

Tata Motors has been on a bit of a dream run in the last few years, squabbling with Mahindra for second spot most lately. But it has done this while missing a key piece of the puzzle, a true C-segment SUV that will complement the numbers the Nexon brings in. The Tata Sierra is meant to fix that.

Design

Using the Sierra name and then deeply leaning into the heritage of that nameplate has been an inspired move. It makes the Sierra stand out immediately, mainly because Tata Motors has done this reinvention the right way. There is enough here to remind you of the original Sierra, but in a modern monocoque five-door package that leans heavily towards practicality.

The Sierra is 4,340mm long, 1,841mm wide and 1,715mm tall. This puts it right in the C-segment, but the simple flat surfaces and straight lines highlight the SUV's width and height. There is great attention to detail like the black fascia that mimics the older Sierra's face, where the company has gone to lengths to develop the slimmest headlamps and widest single-piece LED light bar manufactured in India. Even the bonnet has a complex hinge to keep the clamshell look.
