This year's Japan Mobility Show saw Honda go all-out for India

REVIVAL

It’s been quite a while since there has been a Honda that has shaken things up as much as the City originally did.

But the carmaker has been patient and taken time to rationalize its presence in India. The Elevate and new Amaze over the last few years have been slow starters, but have helped build a base from where the brand can start to make its presence truly felt.

This year’s Japan Mobility Show was the platform through which Honda decided to revive its efforts in India. Toshihiro Mibe, Honda’s global head, made it clear that India would be a strong region of focus over the next few years alongside the US and Japan. The company states it will launch 10 cars in India between now and 2030, of which 7 will be SUVs.

At the core of this is the Honda o Alpha EV. This mass-market SUV is an extension of the new o range of EVs Honda has been rolling out as concepts over the last couple of years. While the o SUV and sedan will be flagship global products, the Alpha is aimed at bringing that philosophy to the more value-conscious buyer.
