One of our favourite oerformance scooters with Italian flair gets some minor tweaks

- CHRISTOPHER CHAVES

APRILIA SR 175

As we wind down 2025, the performance scooter segment in India has definitely seen some action.

Hero Motocorp and TVS have both entered the space with their offerings — the Zoom 160 and the Ntorq 150 — signalling their ambitions. But for Aprilia, a brand that’s no stranger to this category, the focus is on enhancing what already works. Enter the new SR 175 — an upgrade to the SR 160, now with more displacement, more power, and a handful of features that up the ante for enthusiasts. The SR 175 takes aim at the likes of the TVS Zoom 160, the Yamaha Aerox 155, and the TVS Ntorq 150. But how does it fare in this competitive space? Let’s dive in.

When it comes to design, the SR 175 isn’t straying too far from what we've seen in its predecessor, the SR 160. But the new sticker work brings a sort of fresh, sporty appeal. The scooter retains that signature Italian styling — sleek, slender, and aerodynamic — and while it’s petite in proportions, it packs a presence. The standout feature is the 14-inch wheels at both ends, clad in 120/70 section tyres. Though slim, this SR 175 looks like it’s been hitting the gym, and it’s obvious.

In terms of styling, the SR 175 gets new sticker works, fresh colour schemes inspired by the larger RS457 models, and LED headlamps. That's right, the headlamp is LED, but the turn indicators are still old-school halogen bulbs — a bit of a letdown in a segment where LED lighting has become almost standard. Moving on, the seat has been redesigned as a single-piece unit, with a two-step feel and a cutout in the middle. More on that in a bit. The taillight is LED as well, and the scooter retains its minimalist body styling.

Up front, we have a telescopic fork and at the rear, a single-step monoshock with preload adjustability. It’s a setup that’s simple yet effective, keeping the scooter nimble without compromising its athletic intentions.

THE HAMMER AND THE SCALPEL A VERDICT YOU DIDN'T WANT

Let's start with a cliché. Or, perhaps, two. Starting a story with a cliché is the first, and here is the second: human beings always get stuck at the proverbial crossroads in life, finding it difficult to choose.
