In 2013, Triumph completely updated its Daytona 675 models, much to the horror of its Japanese rivals...
-
When you consider that Triumph has been the official engine supplier to the Moto2 World Championship since 2019, it seems a crying shame that the firm's only production sportsbikes since the linkup began have been the limited-edition Daytona Moto2 765 and fairly lacklustre Daytona 660. In fact, Triumph's class-leading Daytona 675 was actually discontinued the year before the 765cc triple was catapulted onto the world scene! All of which makes you question the logic behind spending millions of pounds supporting a race series when you lack a sportsbike to sell on the back of it. But whatever Triumph's marketing department's logic is, that's for it to justify... instead, let's celebrate Triumph's last great mass-produced sportsbike - the Daytona 675R.
OTHER THINGS TO KNOW...
TRIUMPH DAYTONA 675
The stock Daytona 675 model has an identical chassis and engine to the R but comes with fully adjustable Kayaba suspension instead of the R's Öhlins, Nissin rather than Brembo brakes and master cylinder, no carbon infill panels and no quickshifter. It also has a 10mm lower seat height and marginally less aggressive geometry. Prices start at £4500.
SERVICE HISTORY
The Daytona has 6000-mile service intervals, with the 12,000-mile service the one to keep an eye out for. As it includes both the valve-clearance check and suspension linkages strip and regrease, it is important it is adhered to. Check the bike's service history: if it is approaching requiring the major service, bear in mind the cost when making an offer.
SUSPENSION
The R's Öhlins suspension is fully rebuildable by an approved Öhlins technician, which is good, but while the stock model's Kayaba forks can be rebuilt, the shock can't. This can make the R a better long-term used buy as a new quality shock costs upwards of £500.

MV UNLEASHES ITS BRUTALE SERIE ORO
MV Agusta has marked its claim on the middleweight naked class with the arrival of the all-new Brutale Serie Oro. At its core sits the brand-new 950 EVO triple, a snarling, counter-rotating crank masterpiece pumping out 148bhp at 11,200rpm and 107Nm at 8400rpm. Even better, 85% of that shove is on tap from 3500rpm... proper road-riding grunt. With finger-followers, revised cam profiles and optimised cooling and lubrication, MV says it's stronger, smoother and – dare we say it – more reliable than any Brutale before it.

BMW'S BABY GS
Let's face it, not everyone wants a whopping big adventure bike in their life, and BMW gets that more than most. It's probably the core reason it's unleashed the new F 450 GS - a bike aimed squarely at the booming A2 adventure market, which drags a hefty dose of R 1300 GS design swagger into the 48hp class. With its unmistakable GS beak, X-shaped LED running light and slim, racy tail, the baby GS looks every inch the younger sibling of BMW's flagship bruiser.

OLIVER LONGTERMER SUZUKI GSX-R125
Another month into winter and the cold weather is not holding me back just yet. Despite the painfully icy winds, I have been out just as much as my I did in the warmer months, though with the help of layered clothes. The GSX-R125 continues to deliver more excitement, learning curves, and head turns - even after three months of riding.
