The Heavy Motor Vehicle (HMV) industry is a vital pillar of our economy, enabling transportation and trade across extensive networks. With the government's increasing focus on infrastructure development and economic growth, the demand for quality fabrication in the Indian HMV sector has surged. Fabrication transforms raw materials into semi-finished or finished products, ready for assembly.

Importance of Quality Assurance in Fabrication

Quality assurance in HMV manufacturing is essential, as even minor variations directly impact vehicle performance and safety. The fabricated products must meet stringent government standards to ensure reliability. Variations in the quality of raw materials and unexpected changes in operational equipment can adversely affect these standards.

The quality assurance process typically unfolds in three key stages:

• Prefabrication Stage: This initial phase involves approving the quality assurance plan and reviewing welding procedure specifications and welder qualification records. Additionally, inspection and clearance of raw materials, along with the layout of templates, jigs, and fixtures, are conducted.

• During Fabrication: The second phase focuses on monitoring the use of approved raw materials, welding consumables, and procedures, alongside the application of validated jigs. Radiographic inspection of butt welds is also carried out to ensure integrity.

• Post-Fabrication Checks: The final phase includes thorough inspections of welds, rivets, structural integrity, dimensions, and trial assemblies to ensure all components meet required standards.
