INVESTMENT KEY TO UK CAR-MAKING REVIVAL

THE UK IS aiming to regain its place as a top global vehicle production location, following the unveiling of a new 10-year industrial strategy.

The government's new plan provides the foundation for major reductions in commercial energy costs, more favourable investment conditions, enhanced skills development and improved trading terms for UK-based car makers.

The Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders welcomed the announcement with a new 10-point plan that aims to "build on the foundation" of the industrial strategy and which, combined, can be used as a "springboard" for growth.

The SMMT believes the country can become one of the world's top 15 vehicle manufacturing sites by 2030 and deliver a £50 billion boost to the economy.
