MAHINDRA XEV 9S

Mahindra's electric SUVs are rather radical. But what about people who don't want to go that flashy? Mahindra believes the XEV 9S will be the right choice for them. But will it be? We find out
There are two distinct ends to the electric SUV spectrum. On one side is the radical crowd, buyers who want their EVs to stand out, and Mahindra already caters to them with the BE6 and the XEV 9e. On the other side are customers who prefer something more understated. Until now, their options were models like the Creta Electric, Windsor and the Harrier.ev. Mahindra has now entered this space with the all-new XEV 9S, and we took it out for a short drive to see what it brings to the table.
Let's begin with the design. The XEV 9S is essentially the electric version of the XUV 700 and hence follows a similar design language. The front end though, has been completely redone and features the signature connected DRL module that allows it to be recognisable as a Mahindra SUV. Then there are smart-looking LED headlamps that all sit within one pod. The large bumper and closed grille ensure that the electric identity of the vehicle is clearly announced. In profile, one can spot the XUV 700 traits in this SUV. It looks bold thanks to the flared wheel arches and prominent shoulder line. The 18in alloy wheels look good too. At the back the designers have moved away from the now familiar connected lights. Instead the tail lights are individual units albeit LEDs.
When it comes to dimensions, the 9S is 4,737mm in length, 1,900mm wide and 1,747mm in height. It features a wheelbase of 2,732mm. All this means that the 9S is at par more with the 9E rather than anything else. Ground clearance too is impressive at 205mm.
