And if you're also the kind of person who wants to pull up next to a RAM pickup truck and tell him your vehicle can eat his for breakfast, at least in terms of towing, then you're going to love the GMC Yukon Denali.

The Yukon is a 2.7-tonne monster SUV built on a pickup truck platform by General Motors, which is hugely popular with soccer moms, yokels and the American population in general.

Perhaps its most vital statistic — aside from its hefty $174,990 price — is that this GMC can legally tow more weight than a Toyota LandCruiser or Nissan Patrol, because it's officially rated at 3628kg. At the launch of the Yukon we were offered the chance to tow a 2.5-tonne horse float, which completed the task with ease, thanks to its very old school and properly hairy chested 6.2-litre V8 engine, which makes an impressive 313kW and 642Nm and has a powerful thirst.
