Three friends with one vision are redefining design in Indore.

THRICE AS GOOD

At SPAN Architects, the design approach is centered on creating spaces that are not only visually appealing, but also resonate with the users' emotions and experiences.

The firm emphasizes a deep understanding of materials, spatial dynamics, and cultural contexts to craft environments that are both innovative and timeless. The founders, college friends turned partners — Anand Maroo, Arpit Khandelwal and Pratik Gupta — united by their passion for design, embark on an endless journey to create spaces that harmonize aesthetics and functionality.

Each project is a testament to their commitment to excellence, sustainability, and user-centric design. Their collaborative vision has since transformed SPAN Architects into a prominent name in the Indian architectural landscape. Sumisha Gilotra, Editor Architect and Interiors India chats up with the partners to find out what makes them tick!

The House of Linear Lines, designed by SPAN Architects in Indore, is a 5BHK family home spread across 10,000 sq ft. Completed in 2023, the residence reflects a modern aesthetic with travertine cladding, clean geometries, and a soft beige palette. The design emphasizes openness, with double-height volumes, landscaped terraces, and expansive glazing that frame views of surrounding farmland. Interiors are calm and minimal yet enriched with bespoke details and crafted elements. Multiple terraces extend the living experience outdoors, creating a seamless connection with nature. The project demonstrates SPAN Architects' ability to combine elegance, functionality, and timeless design in residential architecture.

MUSING MUSEUMS

A few months back, when I was in Budapest, I walked into a building that left me awestruck. The inquisitive me went on to explore, and I discovered that it was a museum with pixels on the exterior and that the curved structure of the building dipped underground to form the interiors, even as the garden I was walking on was the green roof of the building that interjected at street level! Woah! I quickly took some pictures and went on to research this building, and the more I read about it, the more I fell in love with it. And then of course I had to share it with you all!
