From Chandigarh, With Love

Modernist architect Aditya Prakash designed a group of chairs for his family home in the 1960s and '70s. Now Phantom Hands is releasing a collection of furniture based on Prakash's original creations.

There's something about Chandigarh and its modernist legacy that continues to strike a chord with architects and designers across the world. Its architecture and furniture have an everlasting charm-something very familiar for Deepak Srinath, founder of Bengaluru-based furniture studio Phantom Hands. "A few years ago, I visited legendary architect Aditya Prakash's house in Chandigarh and discovered that he had secretly designed several pieces of furniture for his private space in the 1960s and '70s," says Srinath.
