RBST Young Shepherd - a celebration of skills and superb British breeds

RBST Senior Conservation Adviser Tom Blunt says there is still time to qualify for the 2025 Grand Final
-
In May the Nottinghamshire County Show hosted a fantastic display of native breed sheep, expertly shown, at the Newark Showground in the re-scheduled RBST Young Shepherd of the Year 2024 Grand Final. The standard of display was incredibly impressive. I offer my congratulations to all the young people who were selected for the Grand Final, and particularly to the exceptional winners.
The Junior Young Shepherd of the Year, and winner of the Outlane Trophy, was Joe Trofer-Cook showing his Jacob. The Reserve winner in the Junior Section was Pippa Welford showing a Colored Ryeland. The Senior Young Shepherd of the Year, and winner of the Harrison Challenge Trophy, was Miles Northmore, showing a Ryeland. The Reserve Senior winner was Rosie Bert, showing a Leicester Longwool. Miles also won Overall Young Shepherd of the Year.
Each finalist won their place in the Grand Final through strong performances at qualifying shows held across the country in 2024 (qualifying shows include the Devon County Show, the Great Yorkshire Show, the Royal Norfolk Show, the Scottish Smallholders Festival and many more). As ever, many RBST support groups and members have been heavily involved in making these important rare breed classes possible at shows across the length and breadth of the UK.
