IF you follow tennis you can repeat the sport’s venues like a rosary; Eastbourne, Birmingham, Queen’s and the big one at Wimbledon. Like Badminton, Burghley and Blenheim for followers of eventing, these competitions are marked in bold in the summer calendar.

Aysgarth School's junior parent and pupil tournament might not be on every tennis fan’s radar but it is anticipated with a similar fervour by the participants.

The last time we took part, Jack was in first form and I was emboldened by some visits to our local Rusty Rackets tennis group. Big mistake. Joining the little gathering by the tennis courts I was immediately conscious that we had joined the big guns. Some of the boys were already on court playing some pretty handy tennis.
