THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS A FREE LUNCH - unless, it seems, you're the predator of a capercaillie. Research in Proceedings of the Royal Society has shown that the practice of diversionary feeding, which involves leaving food out for problem predators, boosts the breeding success of these large woodland grouses.
