As August ends and we move through early September, we’re now at that time where we start saying goodbye to our summer migratory birds. It can feel a little sad seeing them leave, knowing they won’t be around again until next spring. But it’s a reminder to make the most of what’s around us and see what you can spot!  

Some have already left, such as the Cuckoo, which doesn’t spend long at all in the UK. Not having to bring up a brood - a job it leaves to surrogate parents -  it arrives in April and is usually gone by the end of June. Like lots of migratory birds, it faces an arduous journey. The Cuckoo flies thousands of miles, heading from the UK down through Spain, to northern Africa, onto western Africa.
