Home-bred promise is no secret

Two lightly shown horses come to the fore to finish champion and reserve in the season's ultimate showdown for home-producers

Home-bred promise is no secret

A SECOND generation homebred shone the brightest in this year’s SEIB Search For A Star (SFAS) championship.

Nottingham-based Helen Church and her daughter Jennifer Church’s stunning hack Bassingfield Dark Secret (Zeus) is in only his first season of showing. Despite this, the poised bay gelding, who is a son of Dark De Niro, exhibited ample elegance and sparkle under the spotlights, all while maintaining his cool and collected disposition.

Ten-year-old Zeus is out of former top-level show hunter pony Bassingfield Cassandra, also home-bred by the Churches.

“I’ve just had a baby and I’ve been really busy, so in honesty Zeus hasn’t done much at all,” said Jennifer, who works as an equine vet.
