Mars Petcare India and animal welfare experts carry out an extensive survey.

The project studies the scale and causes of pet homelessness in 20 markets. The report says 362 million pets are homeless globally. In India, 69% of cats and dogs are homeless, mostly on the streets.
The project interviewed 2,565 experts and pet professionals from urban and rural India.
Salil Murthy, Managing Director at Mars Petcare India, said: "The State of Pet Homelessness Report is a call to action to address the urgent issue of pet homelessness, with data and insights that guide us towards solutions. Despite the low shelter adoption rates in India, 53% of respondents are open to adopting pets from shelters in the future. This is an opportunity to strengthen the human-animal bond and encourage adoption. Our goal is to create a better world for pets in India so they get the care and nutrition they deserve.
