Just when Prince Charles thought the British throne would finally be his, another late contender for the crown has entered the fray in the form of his hard-working sister, Princess Anne.

According to Woman’s Day’s insiders, the Queen, 93 – who has been locked away with her husband Prince Philip “despairing” at the state of the family since the Duke and Duchess of Sussex made their shock exit – has had an epiphany in her twilight years and has made no secret of the fact she wishes she could pass the monarchy to more capable hands.

NATURAL LEADER

“Anne is known as HRH Reliable among courtiers. She may not be flashy but she’s tough, kind and can always be counted on to do a good job,” says our source.

“The Queen has barely noticed this in the past, but as she gets older, she’s gotten closer to Anne than ever before and realises that her family would be much better off if Anne was the leader over Charles. She can’t imagine Anne would have allowed the situation with Harry and Meghan to get so bad. The Queen admits she does hold Charles partially responsible for that mess – for not stepping in sooner to rein them in.”
