Here’s what the experts advise you should have at home for medical emergencies and minor injuries, to keep your family safe and well
They have multiple uses, from covering wounds and helping dressings stay in place, to holding pressure and supporting strains. Include safety pins and sticky tape to keep in place.‘Bandages come in three forms,’ says LloydsPharmacy pharmacist Matt Courtney- Smith. ‘Tubular, triangular and roller, with each having a different purpose. Roller bandages support joints, limit swelling and help maintain pressure on wounds to reduce bleeding. Triangular bandages are used to wrap and dress larger wounds or act as a sling support. Finally, tubular bandages support injured joints as well as securing and protecting dressings on the fingers or toes.’

Antiseptic wipes and creams
If you cut or graze yourself, make sure you clean the wound with an antiseptic wipe or running water before applying a plaster or dressing. ‘This will help to reduce the risk of infection and encourage the healing process,’ says Matt.
Hydrogel
‘Burns at home are extremely common and quick care is paramount,’ says Matt. ‘Most minor burns you can treat easily. However, if the burn covers a vast area of skin (bigger than your hand), it blisters or it shows white or charred skin, you should go to A&E.’
