How do you feel about your partner’s ex? a bit suspicious? maybe a little jealous, even threatened? Thankfully, for the most part, the closest you – or he – might get to their old flame these days, is through a sneaky stalk on Facebook.

Only, now imagine that your partner’s ex isn’t just an ex but also their best friend, too. For some of us, the very idea would bring us out in a cold sweat – but surprisingly, there are trios out there who’ve made it work. Take Danielle Bux and her ex-husband, Gary Lineker. Despite expecting a baby with her current partner, lawyer Nate Greenwald, the former couple holiday together, share cosy Christmases and chat to each other on social media – a situation that we assume Nate must be happy with. Psychologists can’t agree whether staying friends with an ex is a good idea – some say it’s mature, while others argue that it stops us from moving on. But Danielle, Gary and Nate seem to be proof that it can work.
