DO you remember the days of half-day closing? As well as closing for an hour every lunchtime, local shops would close for a whole half day every week – and Sunday opening was highly restricted to only a few types of businesses.

The law changed in 1994 to relax the limits. Some shops still choose to close their doors for half-days and Sundays, but it’s becoming increasingly rare.
