THE nights may be getting colder, but there’s no need for you to shiver at bedtime. An electric blanket can keep you cosy throughout the winter months, and soothe aching muscles and joints, too. What’s more, some manufacturers claim they cost as little as 1p per night to run, so there’s no excuse not to be as snug as a bug.

However, if you’ve been using your current electric blanket for more than 10 years, or if it’s looking worn or making strange noises or smells, it is advisable to look for a replacement. Here’s what you need to know before you go shopping.
