Tell someone you’re going to the Isle of Thanet and chances are they’ll imagine you surrounded by water, but the most south-easterly point of Britain has been joined to the mainland since the 17th century, when the dividing channel silted up.

Today the Isle of Thanet is home to three traditional, and very different, seaside resorts – Margate, Broadstairs and Ramsgate. Hugely popular with Londoners from the 18th century until the advent of package holidays, they are now enjoying a rebirth as a short break destination for 21st century holiday makers.
