Of all the cities in continental USA, Omaha, Nebraska would probably be the last place anyone from outside of the United States would ever think of visiting as a tourist. If my sister and her family did not live there, it probably wouldn't be in my map either. But of the few US cities I've visited so far, including New York City, Philadelphia, and Atlanta, Omaha has become one of my favorite stops in the USA.
Here are four reasons why you should consider adding Omaha to your travel bucket list too:
Your chance to explore Middle America
The State of Nebraska is smack-dab in the middle of continental USA. From Omaha, you can cross to five other states in just a few hours. Drive north and you cross to South Dakota, east to Iowa, southeast to Missouri, south to Kansas and southwest to Colorado, and northwest to Wyoming.
Because it is not a popular destination for foreign tourists, you will have to rent a vehicle and plan your driving route yourself-it is quite a big area to explore if you intend to cross state lines. But the good news is, gas is a lot cheaper in Nebraska than say, New York or New Jersey, and there's mostly light traffic on the road.
It's a great place to do some 'Smart Shopping'
For a town that is sometimes dismissed as a middle of nowhere place, Omaha is surprisingly a great city to shop, whether you are a budget shopper or into high-end designer stuff. This is because Omaha is the home of the legendary business magnate and billionaire, Warren Buffett. His company, Berkshire Hathaway, is one of the largest publicly traded companies in the world and has consistently performed well since the 70s. Since many of his investors are Omaha residents, their net worth also rose by just banking on Warren Buffett, who is also known as the Wizard of Omaha.
