The Indian U19 team narrowly missed out on winning their second U19 World Cup in a row as they were shocked by Bangladesh in the all-important final at Potchefstroom. Batting first after losing the toss, India man-aged to post a paltry 177 in 47.2 overs. Bangladesh gained the upper hand as India’s batsmen faltered under pressure. The Indian bowlers tried hard, Ravi Bishnoi, in particular, standing out with 4 for 30.
However, resolute batting efforts from Bangladesh opener Parvez Hossain Emon (47) and skipper Akbar Ali (43 not out) led Bangladesh to their maiden title triumph in the tournament. While India disappointed on the big day, talented opener Yashasvi Jaiswal returned with his reputation enhanced. He put in a stellar show to be deservedly named the player of the series.
