The 2024 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 season is set to go underway from March 22 onward. All eyes will be on Gujarat Titans, who, since coming into the IPL, won the tournament in their maiden season and then backed it up with a runners-up tag last year. Gujarat are a consistent side with some jaw-dropping performances to back their cause. However, IPL 2024 sees the side without regular skipper Hardik Pandya, who left the franchise to join the Mumbai Indians, where he replaced Rohit Sharma as captain. Gujarat appointed Shubman Gill as their skipper and will want to continue in the same vein. Gill was the IPL’s top scorer in 2023, and how the youngster responds to the captaincy role remains to be seen. Gujarat have players like Kane Williamson and David Miller to help Gill on the field with their inputs. One massive blow for the franchise is they will be without star pacer Mohammed Shami, who underwent surgery and faces a considerable time on the sidelines. In the IPL 2024 auction in December, the franchise went hard for players like Spencer Johnson and Shahrukh Khan. Most of their core members of the squad were retained before the side got in several fresh, uncapped Indian faces, spending a good chunk of money. Without Pandya and Shami, Gujarat look a bit weaker but they had two successful seasons and will want to replicate the same.
