In the midst of the pandemic, another storm is brewing. Once again it picks up the dust on the timeless debate about the qualifications of who constitutes as a cricket expert – the columnist and commentator, neither of whom might have played the game, or those that have played the game and abound the commentary box but are not necessarily nuanced in the art of communicating.

“Rubbish,” “My mum could play a better shot than that,” “Rhubarb”. Not unfamiliar words for those who have enjoyed listening to the cricket commentary, a now dying art form, and certainly inimitable in style as they are ascribed to yesteryear’s cricketer from England, Sir Geoffrey Boycott, who knows finds himself in the eye of the storm, largely of his own doing.
