Accomplished in ballet, modern and Indian classical dance, Ramli Ibrahim is a cultural icon who has performed internationally for almost 4 decades. As the Artistic Director and Chairman of the Sutra Dance Theatre, Malaysia, Ramli has choreographed stunning works and nurtured some of the brightest dance talents from Malaysia.
Besides Bharatanatyam and Odissi, Ramli has also simultaneously contributed to the establishment of contemporary modern dance through the creation of a strong body of original works which define 'modernity' from Asian perspectives.
He is a deserving recipient of many awards and accolades: the most recent awards are UNESCO Living Treasure in 2012, Sangeet Natak Akademi Award for Odissi in 2012, Datukship from DYMM Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Monarch of Malaysia, in 2013.
