The Sigma 28-70 mm f/2.8 DG DN Contemporary lens was introduced worldwide sometime in end March 2021. The lens nomenclature mentions DG DN. DG signifies that the lens is compatible with full frame sensor cameras (but can be used with APS-C sensor camera bodies as well). DN signifies that it is designed for mirrorless interchangeable lens cameras. The lens is available in two mounts – Sony E-mount and L-mount (L-mount refers to the L-mount alliance between Sigma, Leica and Panasonic. Hence an L-mount lens would be compatible with mirrorless cameras from the three manufacturers). The lens that we have received is for Sony E-mount. Let’s see how the contemporary lens fares in our review.
Design & Build Quality
The Sigma 28-70 mm f/2.8 DG DN Contemporary lens under review is for Sony E-mount camera bodies. The outer body is made from TSC (Thermally Stable Composite), a type of polycarbonate that is strong, yet light in weight. TSC also allows better machining accuracy compared to ordinary plastic. The lens mount is made of chrome-plated brass and has a rubber seal to prevent dust and water drops from entering the lens. It has ten electronic contacts that exchange data between the body and the lens. The lens is beautifully finished in dull black, with distinct white markings. Filter thread is 67 mm. The lens weighs 470 g. Like all Sigma lenses, the 28-70 mm f/2.8 DG DN is made in Japan.
