Theyyam

Chetan Pardeshi is an IT professional successfully running his IT business for the last 15 years but his love for photography and travel brought him back into action five years ago and he hasn’t stopped. His work has been featured in several leading exhibitions across India & also published in various magazines. Widely interested in Travel & Wildlife Photography, he loves to try different genres of photography and to travel to new places, meeting new people from different cultures. With his love for relishing local delicacies, he is always on the lookout to capture interesting people and their culture.

Theyyam or Kaliyattan is a popular ritual form of worship that originated in North Kerala; predominantly in the Kannur & Kasaragod Districts. It’s a living cult with several thousand-year-old traditions that encompasses dance & music. It exalts the beliefs of aristocratic Thiyyas who gave a lot of importance to the worship of heroes and the spirits of their ancestors. It’s often performed in kavus (sacred groves) throughout northern Kerala.
