SPCA pet matchmakers visit Blue Hill for adoption event
The Weekly Packet
|09/24/2020
BLUE HILL—On Saturday, September 19, staff and volunteers from the Hancock County SPCA set up a booth at the Blue Hill Co-op for some “Pet Matchmaking.”

This event was part of the SPCA’s first-ever county-wide “Meet-and-Greet,” in which those interested in adoption might learn more about specific pets in urgent need, animal welfare in the region, and affordable services locally available to pet owners.
Other pet matchmakings took place simultaneously on Saturday, with SPCA booths in Bucksport, Winter Harbor, Southwest Harbor, and Bar Harbor. The day was meant to draw attention to seven dogs and 20 cats in especially critical need of permanent homes.
None of the animals were present at any of the five locations.

A step toward effective climate strategy
As weather-related disasters ramp up around the state and the country, the most noticeable increase in public participation in these climate-related discussions is a demand for more government funding for repairs and adaptation, and yet pretty much zero discussion about decreasing the rate of climate warming. This is both unsurprising and a cause for deep concern.
