‘Higher prices will offset low acreage’
While the prices of some pulses moved up in the first half of the year after a sharp slump in the last two years, there is renewed pressure on their prices in the last few weeks.
Despite the festival season has begun, demand is weak pushing prices lower. Gram (chickpea) is selling at 4,000/quintal in Bikaner now, down from 4,300 in July and 4,700 in May (MSP for Gram is 4,620/quintal). Urad price in Latur, Maharashtra, is 5,200/quintal, down from 5,500 in June (MSP is 5,700/quintal). Moong price in Akola are 6,000/ quintal, down from 6,200 in May (MSP is 7,050/quintal).
