Green power puts wind in the sales at Winston's birthplace

THE stately home birthplace of Sir Winston Churchill will weather rising energy costs because its bosses invested in green power, they say.

Blenheim Palace, where the wartime prime minister was born in 1874, will be able to draw on eco-friendly energy supplies from solar power and other sources including a small hydro dam, making the Oxfordshire country house resilient to price rises.

Dominic Hare, Blenheim’s chief executive, also told how the historic palace is bouncing back from the pandemic with healthy ticket sales to the UK and foreign tourists. That follows a record-breaking Christmas for visitors to the Woodstock estate.

Sir Winston helped ensure Britain and the Allies won the Second World War and as the UK faces one of its biggest peacetime crises, Blenheim’s management is emulating his resilience with a plan to be fully sustainable by March next year.
