Flipkart on Thursday said it has bought parent Walmart’s wholesale business in India for an undisclosed sum as the homegrown e-commerce major forays into the business-to-business (B2B) segment to compete better with arch rival Amazon.
Under the deal, the Bengaluru-based firm will tap into Walmart India’s Best Price wholesale cash-and-carry stores to launch ‘Flipkart Wholesale’ in August.
Walmart has been running 28 Best Price wholesale stores, two fulfillment centers and more than 1.5 million members, largely comprising mom-and-pop stores, but the brand has not been able to make money from this business.
