11 of 20 major roads in Delhi witness a massive spike in fatal accidents; experts blame rash driving, fatigue & poor training
The birthday joyride turned fatal for two youths, including a Delhi university student, on July 29 when their speeding car hit an electric pole in east Delhi’s Vivek Vihar. A few days ago, a CRPF constable died while two other personnel were injured when they were hit by a Mercedes car driven by a 19-year-old in South Delhi.
These are some of the accidents indicating how not just highways but other roads are also turning fatal in the Capital. In fact, six persons, including three men of a family, were killed in separate road accidents in Delhi last Sunday night. Of every 10 fatal road accidents in Indian cities with a population of over one million, one is in Delhi, a latest report by the Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has revealed. The report said that there was one road accident death in almost every five hours in Delhi.
