Johnson snubs demands | "Re-vet all cops now' call
Boris Johnson has rejected calls for a full public inquiry following the murder of Sarah Everard.
There have been urgent demands for one into the Metropolitan Police's failings to combat sexual violence after Wayne Couzens, one of its own officers, was convicted of her murder.
Instead the PM urged women to “trust the police”.
And Mr Johnson prompted anger by urging women to follow much-ridiculed Met advice to flag down a passing bus” if they felt they could not trust an officer.
It appears he could be out of step with some in his own party after the tragedy.
Senior Tory MP Andrew Mitchell called for a full investigation “akin to the Stephen Lawrence inquiry to investigate the underlying issues in forces.
