Rishi's Meal Deal To Rescue 1.8m Jobs ...With The Treasury Throwing In A Tenner

Chancellor Rishi Sunak has offered the nation half-price meals out this summer in a rescue package for the country’s pubs, cafes and restaurants.

Diners were told the Treasury will pick up 50 per cent of the bill up to £10 a head every Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday in August.

Mr Sunak urged the public to “eat out to help out” businesses struggling to get back on their feet after the shutdown.

The unprecedented measure follows a £4billion VAT cut on food, accommodation and attractions to protect 2.4 million jobs.

Responding to the news, business leaders said the package will kickstart the hardest-hit parts of the economy while restaurant chains saw a share hike.
