Wonderkid Louis puts Warriors to the sword
The Rugby Paper
|December 22, 2019
HEAD coach Johan Ackermann says Gloucester’s teenage wing prodigy Louis Rees-Zammitt is good enough for international rugby – and on this performance, you’d struggle to find a dissenting voice in Kingsholm.
The 18-year-old scored twice against an unimaginative Worcester side and set up one for Chris Harris as he brought speed, flair and audacity to the Cherry and Whites.
His raw pace was evident, but it is the speed of thought as much as the speed of legs that is turning heads.
While Ackermann believes his wing has the credentials to cut it for Wales, he is urging caution at how he is introduced to the international stage.
“He’s good enough to play internationally,” said Ackermann after his side scored five tries in the match’s final quarter. “He’s got size for a young guy and he’s going to become more of a man as he gets older, and he’s got the mental toughness.
“International rugby is a big step up and time will tell. First thing is for him to play well for Gloucester. He’s definitely got the skill, but at international level everything is faster and decisions are quicker.
