JAKE Evans was the hero for Hungerford as the Berkshire side made another statement of intent to the National League South.
Evans, a recent signing from Hemel Hempstead, scored his first goal for the club in the 57th minute after Chris Lewington’s own goal in the 15th minute had put the home side in front.
Scott Rendell pulled one back for the visitors in the 74th minute but the home side saw out the game to rise to third in the table and stop the rot of four straight home defeats.
The hosts made a strong start to proceedings.
James Rusby’s long throws caused problems for the Maidstone defence. The first after six minutes created a half chance for Keith Emmerson that he poked wide.
