HAKAN HAYRETTIN hailed John Still’s legacy with the legendary Non-League boss set to leave Maidstone United at the end of the season.

- Matt Badcock

LEGEND TAUGHT ME ALL I KNOW

Still has announced he will step down from his Head of Football role of the National League South Stones, the club he returned to last season.

The 69-year-old won one of seven promotions with Maidstone in 1989 in a storied career that saw success at Leytonstone & Ilford, Dartford, Redbridge Forest, Dagenham & Redbridge, Barnet and Luton Town.

Still’s record is unrivalled while he has also built a reputation for discovering untapped talents such as Paul Benson and Dwight Gayle, who have gone on to enjoy professional careers.

Head of coaching Hayrettin – who was on Still’s staff when Luton won the Conference Premier title in 2014 – will continue in charge of Maidstone next season and he couldn’t be prouder to take the baton on from one of the game’s greats.

“For me it’s going to be a sad day,” Hayrettin told
